12 Days Countdown… Day 3: Wrap-Up

JOYcabulary is counting down the days to the holiday break with our 12 Days Countdown. This series of 12 posts are like a vocabulary advent calendar to keep word learning going during the hectic holiday season.

We are checking-in and wrapping up our holiday countdown with only two more posts in 2022! Remember to be kind, generous, and patient with yourself and to those around you. Embrace the the anticipation, temptations and pressure. You still have plenty of time to be present and enjoy all of the moments.

Here is Bundles, a warm-up poem by John Chipman Farrar.

What feelings come to you when you hear the word ‘wrap’? Sometimes words can have both positive and negative feelings. As you give a wrapped box a jingle, does the curiosity bring you joy or anxiety?

The Most Wonderful Gift in the World by Marky Sperry

On Christmas morning, Esme and Bear wake up to find a gift under the tree that’s not for either of them. So the two set out to find the present’s recipient, Little Bunny Boo-Boo. They travel on the Treacherous Path through the snow, encounter the Howling Gale, and push their way through deep, deep snowdrifts to Little Bunny Boo-Boo’s house. Little do they know that the gift they are bringing is the greatest gift in the world. A heartwarming Christmas tale about the magic of friendship.

Take a look at our book suggestions to pair with the warm-up poem above. The Most Wonderful Gift in the World by Mark Sperry incorporates high-level vocabulary words with an important lesson on how gifts are more than objects. The Christmas Wrapping Paper by Jule Pryke takes place on Christmas Eve with lots of magic. It provides opportunity to discuss accents and speech patterns of people from different parts of the world.

Lights! Camera! Action! Pretend you are with the characters walking across the "treacherous path." Do you have treacherous winter weather heading your way this holiday? This is a word that could be applied many ways this time of year.

A final gift to end the night: a poem with paper, scissors, and tape! A genius gift idea with thanks to my lovely administrator!

Wishing you health, happiness, and time with your loved ones. Wrap yourself in a snug blanket. Enjoy the magic of the season! We've got this.
