Merry and Hark: A Christmas Story ,by April Genevieve Tucholke, brings to mind other favorite JOYcabulary books. Merry reminds us of Knight Owl - another tiny owl who yearns for something big.
Since the book is based on the owl found in the 2020 Rockefeller Christmas tree, return to our December 2022 post to find The Christmas Owl by Ellen Kalish & Gideon Sterer and Red & Lulu by Matt Tavares. These three books can spark some deep compare/contrast work and literary essay, so don’t hesitate to share with intermediate grade readers.
Merry and Hark tucks in some fantasy sections as the Owl Heroes are described as well as some informational facts about owls and pine trees. “Perfect for city kids and nature lovers alike.”
